Why simplify a GPS track?

A GPS track recorded continuously can pile up thousands of points, many of which add nothing: a straight line only needs its two ends. This tool runs the Douglas-Peucker algorithm to drop redundant points while keeping the track's real shape, producing a smaller file that loads faster on a GPS device.

The full guide covers how this simplification works and how to pick the right tolerance.
